When people claim rappers such as Lil Wayne and Drake as ‘the greatest rappers alive’ I actually get hurt man. I cry internally for real living great emcees such as Nas, Rakim, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Q-Tip, MF Doom etc etc.. But it’s not them I feel for but those people that don’t know what they’re missing out on. The real substance in Hip-Hop and not just ‘rap’. How they are settling for the glamorization of an ignorant lifestyle. If the mainstream rappers were judged based on their skill and not the euphoria of their celebrity, they wouldn’t be so loved. That’s not what Hip-Hop is about. I know not everyone is going to understand and appreciate that but I just wish they would pay more respect to the History and Culture before making all these claims.
